# Payment set-ups in wallee

When working with Wallee as a payment platform, it’s important to distinguish between wallee payments, additional payment methods and alternative payment methods / PSPs.

When working with wallee as a payment platform, it is important to distinguish between three kinds of payment set-ups: **wallee payments**, **additional payment methods** and **alternative payment methods via external processors or PSPs**. This page explains the differences and points you to the right configuration guide for each.

| Set-up                                 | Contract with            | Typical reason to choose it                                               |
| -------------------------------------- | ------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **wallee payments** | wallee only | Fastest start, one contract, one consolidated settlement. |
| **Additional payment methods** | {inject-brand-name} only | Extend your method offering without a new PSP integration. |
| **Alternative payment methods (PSPs)** | The external processor | You already have acquiring contracts or need a processor we don't act as. |

The three can be combined: many merchants run wallee payments as their base and add individual methods or an external processor alongside.

### Payment methods with wallee/SnapSwap (wallee payments)

These are the payment methods that can be activated directly inside your existing {inject-brand-name} account, using {inject-brand-name}'s core infrastructure. They are currently only available for merchants based in Switzerland and Luxembourg.

To find out how to configure wallee payments, see the [Onboarding chapter](/documentation/readme/onboarding.md). For the full list of methods you can activate, see [Payment Methods](/documentation/payments/integrations/payment-methods.md).

### Additional payment methods within {inject-brand-name}

These are additional payment options that can also be activated directly inside your existing {inject-brand-name} account, using {inject-brand-name}'s core infrastructure. They expand your offering to customers without needing a new PSP integration.

**Examples include:**

* American Express
* Powerpay / Powercard
* Reka
* Innocard Loyalty
* SwissPass

To understand how to configure additional payment methods, see [Processors](/documentation/payments/overview/processors-payment-methods-and-connectors/processors.md).

### Alternative payment methods — via external processors or PSPs

These are external processors or full payment service providers (PSPs) that require separate integrations, even if you manage them through {inject-brand-name}. They are considered "alternative" because they replace or supplement wallee's default acquiring channels.

**Examples of external processors and PSPs include:**

* Nexi (Concardis)
* Worldline (WL)
* Datatrans
* Payrexx
* Adyen

Using these may require setting up external contracts, credentials and API credentials in {inject-brand-name}'s backend.

To learn how to integrate alternative payment methods, see [Direct Acquiring](/documentation/payments/overview/direct-acquiring.md).

Whichever set-up you choose, the configuration always follows the same three entities — processor, payment method and connector. See [Processors, Payment Methods and Connectors](/documentation/payments/overview/processors-payment-methods-and-connectors.md).
